In September 2015, the Gabon-Oregon Center proudly co-sponsored a conference in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in partnership with the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) and Professor Desire Tshala-Katumbay of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
This conference takes place each year and attracts PhD students from a number of African countries (Cameroon, Togo, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, DRC) and several imminent professors worldwide who specialize in neuroscience. The conference addresses such topics as learning cutting-edge methods for brain research and understanding neglected neurological diseases. It allows students and professors to discuss the importance of collaborative research to better face public health and sustainable development issues.
The Center's financial contribution allowed three Gabonese students to attend the conference, and sparked talks between the DRC and our Libreville branch regarding the potential to create a Center modeled on the GOC between the University of Oregon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
